Apacs VIRTUOSO 30- Review

What we like…What we don’t like…
Great bang for your buck. (Great materials and specs for the cheap RRP).Ultra-light weight may not suit some players.
All-round solid performer for beginners and intermediates. May lack power for more advanced players.

The Apacs Virtuoso 30 is a lightweight, head-heavy racket that is ideal for most beginners, intermediate and casual players trying out badminton for the first time.

It is able to support a beginner that is new to the game, while also providing enough ‘oomph’ for an intermediate player.

With both shaft and frame built with high modulus graphite, the Virtuoso 30 boasts incredible quality at a relatively low price point.

OVERHEAD- (Clears, Drops, Smash)

Ultra-light rackets (rackets ranging from 5U to 6U) are great for beginners as they make it much easier to learn proper technique and protects players from injuries. But as a downside, ultra-light rackets lack power. (This is simply Newton’s second law: Force transferred into the shuttle is greater when mass and acceleration is greater!)

Clears (even with the extremely light weight) are crisp and accurate. With the proper technique, even a beginner will be able to push their clears to the back court with ease (albeit with a noticeably slower shuttle speed than with a heavier racket).

Drops are consistent and quick. With its 6U weight category, some intermediates may find that deceptive shots are incredibly easy with this racket. The VIRTUOSO 30’s head-heaviness is very helpful for beginners learning how to take the shuttle at its highest point.

Smashes are very easy. A beginner or intermediate will never have to worry about injuries while smashing. Of course, smashes aren’t at the same level as some 3U, head-heavy rackets such as the ASTROX 99. But, at its price point, the Apacs VIRTUOSO 30 performs admirably.

Net and Defence

With its 6U weight, the VIRTUOSO 30 is just outstanding at the net. Even an advanced player would be satisfied with the amount of control and speed this racket offers when at the net or mid-court.

It is very easy to control net shots and produce quick taps and drives with this racket.

When it comes down to defence, any light weight racket has a slight advantage. The VIRTUOSO 30 does a great job during defence, however, when trying to produce those tighter return shots toward the net, the racket can be a bit inconsistent.

Final Thoughts…

The Apacs VIRTUOSO 30 is the ideal racket for anyone looking to start badminton. Although not as strong as some of the more expensive, flashier rackets on the market, it provides high quality materials and specs that are perfect for beginners. But most importantly, it allows for a strong base in which new players can grow and improve. In a sport where posture and form is everything, having a sturdy base to start on makes a large difference.

As beginners start to make progress, power will become a bigger necessity and players may think about switching to heavier rackets.
